This trip allows you to know and experience on site the geography, climate, population, flora and fauna of a big sector of the Peruvian serrania (mountain range), during a 6 day and 5 night excursion. We will enjoy the authentic nature, beautiful landscapes and spots, lovely snow-capped mountains and fascinating lagoons, as well as the locals and their daily activities, thermo medicinal springs and hot baths which will turn this excursion into an unforgettable experience. Moreover, this area offers us extraordinary opportunities to go mountaineering, especially for tourists willing to feel and live the adrenalin, adventure and emotion in Peru.
Day 1: Cusco – Tinke
Free morning. In the afternoon, we will go to Ocongate by bus. We will then head for the Tinke village, passing by picturesque villages and beautiful areas of farmed land, where we will be accommodated in a small hotel.
Day 2: Tinke – Upis
In the morning, after breakfast, we will start our walk to the place where we will have lunch. From there, we will be able to watch beautiful landscapes of the mountain chain of the Vilcanota and the Apu tutelar Ausangate (6,372 masl). After lunch, we will hit the road again for about 2 hours, until we arrive at our camp in Upis (4,400 masl).
Day 3: Upis – Ausangateqocha
After breakfast, we will continue our ascending walk for two hours, until we arrive at the Arapa pass (4,850 masl), before going down to the place where we will have lunch. This area in the high Andes has three beautiful lakes with red, green and turquoise shades (Pukacocha, HatunPukacocha and Qomerqocha), and astonishing views of the snow-covered surrounding peaks. After lunch, we will continue for two hours our long and slow climb, which will lead us to the second pass of the mountain, the Abra de Apacheta (4,900 masl). Half an hour later, we will arrive at our camp in Ausangateqocha (4,440 masl).
Day 4: From Ausangateqocha to Q’ampa
We will leave very early to climb for two hours heading for the third mountain pass: the Abra Palomani (5,200 masl). This will be the highest point of our trip. We will then go down to an Alpine area in which there are plenty of viscachas, lamas and alpacas. From there, we will follow the path uphill to Q´ampa (4,300 masl), where we will camp.
Day 5: From Q’ampa to Pacchanta
On that day, we will climb to the Q’ampa mountain (5,000 masl), where we will be able to admire the snow-capped Andes. From there, we will come down for about 5 hours heading for Pacchanta. On the way, we will observe a peculiar lagoon named Qomerqocha and, when we arrive at Pacchanta, we will be able to enjoy relaxing thermal springs. This is also where we will camp.
Day 6: From Pacchanta to Tinke
We will leave early from Pacchanta to start our walk back to the Tinke village, where the bus will be waiting for us, to take us back to Cusco in about 4 hours.
